A few weeks ago I arranged for a UL ticket to get back to PER after a longish trip. CX had no cheap seats to anywhere in Australia. At the time the UL flights (and the underlying MH segment) were wide open in the Y cabins. MH (and UL code share) now appears overbooked.

Anyone with upgrade experience coming through KUL in the situation?

I believe the upgrade bids only work if you booked the ticket with the airline itself and are flying on their own metal. So, flying on a UL ticket but on MH metal probably means you won't be able to upgrade either through MH or UL. The only option may be to pay for an upgrade at the MH lounge during transit.
