Hi, I'm trying to figure out uses for Amex. Don't have the card yet, but transferring points to Emirates is a bonus. I'm EK blue. I don't do enough flying to really go for any status on EK.
What do you think my chances are of getting upgrades out of AKL with blue status? Normally in programs it seems even if you have points, if you don't have status your chances are pretty cough getting upgrades but in this case I think they're pretty good. To be honest, at least TT it just seems cheaper to buy J rather than spend on cc and use on Emirates but I'm sure the points will come in handy in the future. I'm guessing there aren't a lot of EK gold and plats in NZ. Not enough to fill the premium cabins from AKL so I think my chances are good.
Can I buy a QF ticketed flight on EK metal then use the Amex points transferred to EK account to upgrade?
Just so you get your QF sc etc or.......buy an EK ticket on EK metal, apply points to upgrade, then swap FF number to QF in the lounge.
I dont think QF plat is of any use here?
Another question, can you donate your Amex points to someone else's EK account for them to upgrade? Or to supplementary card holders?
