UpgradeMe points..hello all am I correct in thinking that if I can see award availability on Va Site and I book and go for upgrademe points it will be confirmed immediately?

Yes that is correct.

(Note that there are restrictions though on upgrading on flights to/from HKG and LAX.)

Yes, if a reward seat is available and your ticket allows points upgrade (ie LAX is for Gold and Platinum only), you can do a online upgrade me with points and almost immediate confirmation.

Here's an update....booked Freedom fare ASP-SYD using 10% discount code and then tried to do the upgrade. Computer said no....not able to upgrade from this fare...eeek....rang VA and no problems after about 10 minutes on the phone and booking came through in J - YAY! BTW, as the flight is 3 hours will we get the full 3 course meal?

Unlikely, as while the times may indicate just over three hours, there is a time zone change and the block time is really 30 minutes less.

However, don't forget the Pantry Menu.
