Hi,
Recently we found and booked mixed class tickets with Etihad for just over $2600 each (PE with VA to Abu Dhabi (14hrs) then economy to Munich (6hrs) with Etihad).
The same tickets were nearly $4600 each with VA
We then realised that maybe we could also use our velocity points for an upgrade to business on the Sydney-Abu Dhabi leg (25000/45000 depending on the PE class) but Velocity said we can't as our tickets are issued on another airlines ticket stock (Etihad).
Does anyone know a way around this, short of paying nearly twice as much for the VA ticket?
Thanks.

No way around it i believe. Want to use VA points, must fly on VA flight number on VA metal (and therefore probably VA stock). Someone correct me if i am wrong...
