Fellow FF'ers. If I am currently sitting as SG and for an upcoming flight (with mrs pjohn + infant) SYD-JHB have requested a points upgrade from PE to J with points. Am now playing the waiting game for confirmation of said request.

If during the time between the request and when the flight takes place I move to WP (which should happen due to DSC promo), will my upgrade request then be treated as a WP and not an SG request?

Short story long - Will I have a better chance of the upgrade coming through as my status would have by then gone up a peg?

I'm guessing from the extract from the QF website below, that provided your status moves up at least a few days out from the flight, then you will be processed as a WP. Note this is only an assumption/interpretation on my part. Someone else may correct me.

Flight Upgrade Awards will not be confirmed on international services at time of booking or when your registration is received. Requests for Flight Upgrade Awards on international services will be considered in accordance with the following timetable:

Platinum One Frequent Flyers, from up to 7 days prior to scheduled departure
Platinum Frequent Flyers or higher, from 48 hours prior to scheduled departure
All Frequent Flyers, within 24 hours of scheduled departure.

PS. Presume you are flying to Johannesburg (JNB) and not Johor Bahru (JHB)? ;) Good luck with the upgrade.

I see to recall somewhere that in order to have your upgrade request processed at you new tier you need to cancel and re request the upgrade.

serfty will be more an authority on this though!

Sorry to reopen an old threat, but my question is the same. I'll be going from PS to SG in June, with a current request for an upgrade from Y+ to J for my flights from SYD-LAX and then JFK-LAX-BNE in October. Should I cancel and re-apply when that happens or should I show a little faith in the system to figure it out itself? Be nice to have the requested date remain as March...

My understanding is that subject to things in the last week, timing of requests is no longer relevant only status, PCV and availability are relevant. So I don't think that cancelling and requesting again could adversely impact your chances.

Is it fair to say PCV trumps status?

Say a SG with a high PCV vs a WP with a very low PCV, who wins?

It might do but only in limited circumstances. As WP upgrades are processed 72 hours before take off, if there are any seats available then the the high PCV SG wont get a look in. If however they release more seats closer to the flight then the SG might get a look in.

This is supposition on my part though.

Looks like it would be in my best interest to cancel the request and re request it once I hit SG. Be great if there was some way to test it. Anyone feel like flying Syd-LAX on October 8 on QF11 with me :p

I'm on QF 11 on the 1st of October, Close but no cigar!

I have just spoken to QFF Premium desk and yes you do need to request upgrade again so they can enter new status and then back date request to original request date! I have just made platinum and had a made a request for upgrade as a gold, so only now will it be processed as a platinum...good to know!

Do I need to call them so they can do it manually and keep the date or do I do it online?

AFAIK status is part of what goes into determining ones PCV, so that may help minimise the number of times this situation occurs!

What is PCV?

Perceived Customer Value

QF have put a value on all of us & determines a number of things, one important thing is Op-Up's & points upgrades. There has been talk about PCV on a couple of threads before, but not sure which ones.
