Upgrade Query for a newbie

Hi all

I assume this is a topic which has probably been exhausted on here and I apologise for repeating, but I am bit tech-illiterate!

I am flying BNE to HK in October on Qantas with my partner. I am silver FF, he is gold, and we have booked the dreaded sale fare - I didn't realise when booking!

Is there any way we can upgrade with points to Business - we both have more than enough points for the upgrade if we were to get it. and have done so on previous occasions NY-BNE, DXB to LHR.

Hi Newbie123 and welcome to AFF.

Are your fares upgradable? Look at MMB (manage my booking) on your Qantas log in. If they are then the option to upgrade will appear.

If so get your partner to request the upgrade, their higher status will give you a small edge for success.

Unfortunately I think what you'll need to change your booking to a more flexible ticket (fare difference + change fee) in order to request an upgrade. I'm not sure if by calling you will have any chance to avoiding the fee (others may have more experience than me).

If you are successful then I recommend making the upgrade request from your partners account for you both.

Other than changing your booking, the only way of upgrading is to hope that you'll be offered a Bid Now upgrade. If you're eligible (and having booked a sale fare it is probably unlikely) you'll be emailed around 1-2 weeks before the flight.

Economy/PE is okay for dayflights, it's the recliners that make it uncomfortable (unless in exit row).

I just wanted to log and let you all know the economy product on the new A330s is pretty good - quite spacious. We had seats 25 A and B, and 25A had two windows, which was nice.
