ive just booked an economy x seat on my upcoming trip and thought what the heck, made an upgrade for return from x to buisness class at pretty much their bottom dollar. what are my chances? whats the best upgrade price you have got, what price will clinch it and what wont?

J loading can be dependent on times of the year... what dates and from which airport do you depart..?

Also status may come into play, do you have any status with VA traceyy..?

So will be lax to melb after mid may on a Tuesday, I’m fairly new to points flew to la at Xmas so thst was my first points on my velocity account, have just family pooled everyone’s points to myself this trip as taking kids do hopefully I’ll get s few more if your not travelling constantly points are hard to get, the booking upgrade however is s one person upgrade as technically I’m on s diff booking for kids

What is the flight number and date. Loads can then be checked and you can get an idea on the likelihood of an upgrade getting approved.

There are variables in your request that will determine the outcome.
  • Z bucket (award) availability (usually released at T-72)
  • Your upgrade bid (if it's high - you trump everyone else - see below. If it's mediocre, you don't stand much of a chance UNLESS you are Platinum - see below.
  • Your status (Platinum will always beat Gold, but neither of them will beat a generous cash bid from a nobody - remember that the bid required may be more than the actual fare).
  • The perfect storm is when a Platinum bids an unbeatable price, but this is rare as most Plats would never upgrade with cash - we all use points. In which case, see above.
