Hi guys,

have recently been flying Qantas again. Currently Gold. Have an H class flight booked for the 24th from Singapore to Sydney but EF is showing business is sold out so zero chance of an upgrade.

Saturday 25th is showing J8 C3. Trying to weigh up moving my flight out a day. Staying here an extra night is no hardship if it results in an upgrade as I'll be broken on Saturday regardless if I have to fly overnight in economy. But would rather not lose an extra day of the weekend if the upgrade chances are slim.

Anyone have any views/historic data on points upgrade likelihood for this flight on a Saturday?

That would be infuriating if that happened to me, especially with the A333 not having PE so the drop to Y would be quite noticeable!

I would not have been happy if I was the passenger 'involuntarily downgraded' - think I would have been sticking to my guns and insisting on J on the next available flight, assuming it was a J ticket to begin with.

Actually I came back on this flight in December - it was s*%t, pardon the 'french'. Dinner (as advertised on the flight info page) was 'supper' - ini-me sized one dish only, no pre-dinner drink, coffee, desert, bread. The FA on our side was terrible, rushing us to finish and go to sleep I think. Breakfast was ordinary to say the least. One of the worst J flights I've had. The flight over though was great. Perhaps QF being consistently inconsistent.

That would have been my angle as well.

Flight was tolerable enough anyway. Ate in the lounge, advised CSM not to wake me for food, and thanks to a couple of sleeping tablets, an exit row seat and a carry-on luggage DIY foot rest was able to sleep most of the flight. CSM snuck me an express path card when I woke up and I was in good enough shape on landing to make it to the pub for ANZAC day later that evening.

The QF A330 routes would be difficult to get upgrades.

I would be furious if I was downgraded. Shame that has to happen. Premium cabins should never be oversold.

You would want to be very well compensated, and by that, more than just a refund of the price difference with Y.

Anyone else here been downgraded and how were you compensated?

Why? Because you're Gold?

I'm currently in the process of doing the maths to see if it's worth the (considerable) extra cost of trying for Gold next year.

I assume so. We had been chatting earlier in the flight when I woke up at one point and wandered to the galley for some water so it's possible it's just because I'm such a charming and witty conversationalist :p

And yes I'm resigned to not getting upgraded on the Friday night red eye out of Singapore. Still keen to hear if chances are appreciably better flying midweek or over the weekend as I'm flying this route once a month.

Worse: if you bought a business sale J as most would:rather than the price difference between discounted J and similarly Discounted PE/Y at time of purchase,

they will refund you the difference between what you paid and the price of full fare Cabin -say PE/Y on the day of involuntary doiwngrade.

there are better rules regarding compensation in the EuroZone.

FWIW, I contemporaneously take a screen shot of similar discount fares in lower cabin when I buy a discount premium cabin such as a business sale.

Not to resurrect old threads but we have seen how appalling the compensation offered by Qantas for cabin downgrades can be.

Sorry, staying off topic here. So if compensated for a downgrade, is the points and SC earn also downgraded to Flex Economy or does it stay on the booked J class earn.

As an aviator the thoughts of someone being in an exit row and dosed up on sleeping pills does not do a lot for me.

Downgraded in cabin, service, quantum of refund, frequent flyer points and status credits. Everything!

Thanks but what a depressing occurrence for anyone let alone someone on a status run who might end up just short of the mark because of this callous act by the carrier. Here we are, hoping to score on upgrade requests but a fellow flyer could be in the utterly despondent position of paying for the vied for seat but end up being jettisoned due to the airline overselling.

Should be able to claim Original Routing Credit.
