Upgrade Guide Being Sold on

There was a US (where else?) originated product floating around some time ago and I got a look at it. It too was emailed and purported to show you all the "insiders tricks". However what wasn't US specific was either well known (at least to me) or obvious.

It may be that some bright spark in Sydney out-laid his money on one of these and thinks he can make a quick buck by on-selling it many times over.

33rpm, I wouldn't get into a spin over it.

Forgive my ignorance, but why do people continue to ask these types of questions?
Airlines are there to make money and they price their product accordingly. Of course we all like "something for nothing", but the reality is, it just doesn't happen. No airline is going to upgrade you because they want to reward your loyalty or because they were feeling nice that day, they will only do so, when it gets them out of a bind, ie: when they have mishandled a pax or sold more seats than they had to sell. In the second situation, its anyones guess as to how they determine who scores the prize, but i'm sure the process involves taking into account FF status and quite possibly the original fare purchased. Other than that, I don't believe there to be ANY way to increase your chances of an upgrade, except for perhaps paying for it!

As long as there are people getting upgraded there will be others who will be jealous and will want to know how it is done.

And yes a lot of the questions are silly but just goes to show how jealous or greedy some people get

- If I ask nicely at check-in will I get a free upgrade? (one of the worst things you can ask as you have just lost all respect from the person processing check-in)
- Does OLCI harm my upgrade changes?
- Should I check-in early or late?
- If I purchase an economy ticket will the airline upgrade me to business class for $500? (Yeah right, who is going to be paying business class prices for seats?)

There are no secrets other than trying to understand yield management....
