Upgrade at check in ?

My wife & self travelling to London 23/8 on QF 1, we are on separate bookings, both QFF members, both bronze ( I was silver when booking made) tickets are S so are upgradeable. My problem is although we can enter the lottery for upgrade, there is no guarantee that both (or either one for that matter) would be upgraded. We will not travel separately in different cabin classes so are not entering the raffle.
Opinions please on chances of getting upgrade to premium economy or above if we asked at check in. I probably already know the answer, but, stranger things have happened. We were both upgraded to business with Qantas on Emirates metal last year from Dusseldorf to Dubai !

I doubt even everyone that has a points upgrade request in on that flight would be successful and there will be some of those pax who will have opted in to be upgraded at the airport in the event of commercial noshows if their upgrade was unable to be confirmed ahead of time.

In the unlikely event there is an oversale in whY with available seats in a higher cabin resulting op-ups it would go on a pax's tier status ie CL/P1/WP/SG etc etc so I'm quite sure there would be more status pax above you in the pecking order than the amount of op-ups needed to be done.

I don't know what the numbers are for EK pax trying to do points upgrades however I'd hazard a guess that it probably wouldn't be as many as for QF and I think it's got to the stage now where both EK & QF pax think it's a service failure if they don't get an op-up.

Being separate bookings, it may be worth having QF adding a TCP to the booking so they are aware you are traveling together.

P1 for 4 years, Op-Ups/Free upgrades as a WP 5 years ago, was 2% of all whY flights, as a P1, that average the last 4 years has stayed just about 20% Op-Up/free upgrades, I heard have he 10 flights figure before, i guess it could be true.

P1's are the highest level of flyers - lets call them the extreme flyers! So there are additional benefits. There are also Chairmans Lounge flyers but they dont necessarily fly that much, just in style.
