My Co recently moved all our travel from Virgin to the 'national carrier'
I now have 20,000 points that are pretty much useless as I now try and build status/points with the new program.
Is there a way to trade / sell points that won't be against the terms of the program?

Many thanks

Not unless they are a part of your 'family' ;)

I'd happily trade my QFF points to you at 1:1 transfer rate and gain your velocity points!

*If I could..

Maybe try and redeem them for gift cards somewhere useful? Other than flights, you're not going to get much better value for them, and I'm pretty sure you're not going to be able to transfer them outside of your family without coming up against the T&Cs.

I also know of someone who would love to get rid of some/lots of Velocity points in exchange for Qantas points as they really don't like/want to fly Virgin because of their lack of J lounges, constant cancelled/changing flight times etc etc etc

;)

I actually got a few PMs from this comment... I'm not game to swap with someone that isn't at least a distant relative at risk of my velocity account and lounge access being terminated! If I could do it safely I would :)

Wise choice. Whilst we jest that you could 'transfer it to your brother', it's the right thing to do.

The best option would be to book flights with the points (for you or family) or redeem them in the store. Not a great value, but it's an option. Of course you could occasionally credit so they don't expire, and you may end up swapping teams and then you have a chunk of points to at least build on.

Not sure why you don't keep the account open, run two accounts and credit things to it which you can't credit to Qantas.

I'm doing the same in reverse, pretty much everything goes to VA, but the odd oneworld flight, Everyday Rewards, Avis, Budget etc go to Qantas and slowly something might build up.

Wouldn't we all? I would even offer 2 for 1 if it was at all possible....

Is it just me, or did VA actually lift their "eligible family member" clause directly from the QF site? It certainly appears that way from the quote..

I am a HUGE advocate of running multiple FF programs so that one can optimise both earn and burn.

However VA is one program that I only direct points to if there is no other option.

be very careful with qantas family
one of my family gave some pts to a friend in UK
12 mths later he got an email stating if he could not prove family status the account would be terminated. he signed in to his account and it was blocked
the account was terminated.
luckily my family members account was still intact.

Even if VA is your last option, there's no reason to burn the points you have because you never know what opportunities may arise in the future. I have 'disengaged' from programs in the past and burned my points, only to later realise that I should have kept them - subsequent earn opportunities meant I would have had a higher balance.

Definitely, and as airlines/programs get "enhanced" it's good to hedge your bets with more than one carrier!
