Unusual QF Flight Path: Sydney to Perth

As a regular for my decades flying across the Nullarbor, due to yesterday inclement weather across the country, QF569 had a unusual flight path.

The Captain made the announcement before leaving Sydney, saying this was an unusual route to fly to Perth, heading for Leigh Creek and then Kalgoorlie as you can see from the snapshot copied from Flightaware.

Normal route is Adelaide, across the Australian Bight and then Esperance.

This was a flight path from 2013, most did go through the Great Australian Bight
 
I have done the east to west and back trip a few times and the route has generally been similar depending on the arrival city....
