Why did you mention QF in this ?

QF is making a profit
UAL or whatever their new abbreviation is, is far from making a profit

Probably to underscore the point that QF has a younger fleet (10 years) than UA (13.2) and thus doesn't have the pressure to replace the fleet. Either that or making some snide jab at QF for the sake of it?

Huh, last full year profit was US $840M for United Continental Holdings for 2011? If thats far from making a profit how would you describe QFs performance?

I cannot see too much in it 10.8 versus 13.2, of course depreciation regimes play a part in the metric as well when it comes to pressure, as do new aircraft delays which have affected both airlines!

My point was, both airlines are or were in a precarious situation, yet UA is renewing its ageing fleet with more fuel efficient planes so they can compete yet QF is deferring orders on fuel efficient planes on international routes so they can circle the wagons against Virgin in Australia.

I think your point is valid......if only QF could take advantage of something like Chapter 11:idea:

Airline bankruptcies in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They could solve all their unions issues, make Billions & order new planes everyday of the week.

Unfortunately, they have to take the long road......
