From ATW Daily News:

United Airlines parent UAL Corp. posted a first-quarter net loss of $82 million, significantly narrowed from a $382 million deficit in the year-ago period, and noted that it was profitable on an operating basis for the first time in a year's initial reporting period since 2000.

Sounds like they are on the improve. Like a lot of things in the transport industry especailly rail, operationally you can make a profit but the capitol cost and or the debt you took in the good times is the thing that kills you.

They (UAL Corp) claim to be sitting on US$4.5B in cash, so the company is a little healthier than it's perceived to be.
