From ATW Daily News:

United Airlines parent UAL Corp. reported second-quarter net income of $273 million, significantly widened from a $28 million profit in the year-ago period and its best second-quarter result since 1999.

I'm glad they're making a profit, although I'd be curious to know how profitable their LAX/SFO - SYD/MEL services are, given how many bargains they've had on those flights lately. Also, this worries me a bit:
"I think there's a billion dollars (in revenue) in bags alone (per year) and right now we're only getting about $400 million," he said.
I took a United flight late last year and Americans have taken to carrying everything on even more than Aussies have, probably because almost all of their airlines charge for baggage. It made it very, very hard to find any space in the overhead lockers at all.
