Hi team,

Have searched forum and google no joy - hoping someone might have an answer!

When booking United (MAD-BNA in this scenario) the Basic Economy says :

No free checked bag
  • A charge will apply for your first standard sized checked bag.
  • MileagePlus® Premier members, Star Alliance™ Gold members, and qualifying MileagePlus cardmembers who purchase their tickets with their card will receive standard checked bag benefits when checking in with United for flights operated by United or United Express®. Restrictions may apply. For details, visit our Baggage information page.
So - is Virgin Platinum included in this?

I'll likely book regular economy on this occasion as I'm travelling solo and from what I understand there is no option to choose a seat for free even when checking in?

But given I'll be flying United a lot, would love an answer to this question?!

My reading is that those 'premier members' are only entitled to a free carry on bag (which would be included on your transatlantic flight anyway).

I THINK that the additional free bag for Velocity Gold / Plat only applies when you already have a checked baggage allowance included - happy to be corrected on that one though.

Did you end up getting any clarity on this question.?I too have an internal UA flight, UA told me today reciprocal status benefits with VA only apply to a VA ticketed flights. this doesn’t make sense, as when i fly SK, or with the old Delta alliance they recognise the relevant benefits. If it’s the case I’m thinking VA status is losing value fast.

I didn't unfortunately. Ended up just getting the next tier flight that also allowed me to reserve seat etc. Reminds me to check that as I did it a while ago!! :)
