Hi everyone - Merry Christmas & A Happy 2013 to you all,

We're returning from LAX in June next year with United, in economy. For $137 per person, we can upgrade to "Economy Plus" - I would appreciate your thoughts as to is it worth it?

cheers

Dont know the product but will take it at face value,however anything that makes the flight more comfortable has to be a plus.

Can you buy it in advance, I thought that maybe restricted to their status pax?

Hi Spruce - this is the blurb from United;

"Discover the benefits of Economy Plus.

See what other travelers are talking about - purchase Economy Plus® for your next flight. Savor more space to work and relax, and be seated near the front of the cabin, so you can exit the plane more swiftly at your destination."

Think of it as Economy with increased leg room. 34" vs 31" iirc. That's about it.

We flew on UA metal LAS/LAX last month on a B737-800 & ended up in an economy plus seat without knowing at the time of booking. I'd made the booking on the US Air website so it was a code share flight. I couldn't do seating on the US website however used the US pnr on the UA web site to access our booking however that didn't show any seats available.

The ff numbers in the booking at the time were our US DM numbers that are entry level and have no status.

I called UA & asked if they could pre-allocate some seats as I'd been unable to on their website. They happily allocated 11AB which I assumed was just a normal economy seat. When I was looking at the UA seat map the day prior it showed other seats in that zone as being available but wanted to charge $7.00 each to move so I didn't worry about it.

When checking in at LAS Airport again it offered other seats but this time for $12.00 per person so again I didn't bother to change our seats. In order to have our checked baggage fees waived the checkin agent took out the US DM number & entered our TK *A Gold ffn then once checkin was complete, re-entered the US DM ff no's back in to the booking.

When we boarded and took our seats I thought I was sitting in the emergency exit as I would put the legroom of these seats on a par with the leg room offered on QF domestic 738's.

IMHO paying an extra $7.00 is definitely worth it and is a great idea for families with children who are not eligible to sit in an extra row. It can also be good for those pax who don't fulfil the exit row criteria for whatever reason but would benefit from seats with extra leg room.
