I’m trying to book a simple BNE-MEL flight in J using Avios. I get to the payment screen, do the payment verification and then get an error that the booking can’t be processed. Anyone else have this issue before?

I tried to call BAEC but they operate on UK time (despite having an Australian number stating a 9am-6pm AEST opening time).

It's probably a good thing that you can't book that online right now, as BA's website is charging arbitrary and excessive GST on QF domestics.

I'm booking a PER-SYD and it's quoting me 13k Avios + $62.07 in fees and taxes.
Usually the fees and taxes are under $50 and comprise of a carrier surcharge (YR) which is $17.50, the usual motley assortment of passenger and security charges that are $20-25, and GST on those amounts which is $4-5.

Instead, BA's site is quoting me an arbitrary GST figure of $9.26, and is levying it twice.
I didn't know an airline halfway across the planet was so interested in padding Chalmers' coffers and repairing the budget at our expense!

I might point the finger at Qantas, not BA for denying access to these flights. I know (from personal experience) how stingy they have become with the latest (in house) management.

On the other hand, I mightn't be too hard on Qantas, as BA has barred other FF programs from accessing their own flights until much nearer the flight time. Tit for tat you might think.
