Ultimate Auctions puts Qld holidays under hammer | Travel News | News.com.au

HOLIDAYMAKERS will have their chance to snap up Queensland getaways from just $1 when a new tourism campaign kicks off in Brisbane today.
State Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said Tourism Queensland's 2009 Ultimate Auctions will sell off holidays using an eBay-style platform with bidding starting at $1.

Obviously the Hamilton Island "Best job in the world" campaign wasn't enough publicity for Qld :!:

Sounds exciting, part Priceline, part eBay, part Wotif.

I have look previoulsy at bids on the accom on graysonline.com.au (Accommodation In Australia By Online Auction - Holidays, Breaks) . By the time the sale ends, the prices seem to get close to other accom deals. Perhaps a 10% discount for the lack of flexibility on this style of purchase.

hmmm.. someone has gotten carried away to pay too much in the excitment of the auction atmosphere:

Seems it's catching, someone has bid $1050.00 for 3 nights at the Rydges Port Douglas which has a RRP of $987.00.

hmmm.. someone has gotten carried away to pay too much in the excitment of the auction atmosphere:

Qld Tourism Auction site : Product Page 60 minute Flight Simulator Package current bid $280.

Suppliers Retail site : Flight simulators Gold Coast - Welcome to Flight Experience Q1 $199.

The same thing happened last time QLD holidays did this auction thing a few years back. The only thing I could imagine was some bidders were excited by the novelty of it. Certainly no bargains came out of it though.
