The biggest difference is that China is a dictatorship country and USA is democratic country. There are no freedom in China. Whatever you say in China will be stored and can be used against you anytime. The court systems is always aligned with the government and not independent. Try saying something bad about the government in China and you could be executed.
That is exactly my point too.. Thanks for the clarification from my post too :)

I was in the group of youngsters looking forward to the reunification of HK to China back in 1980s. By that time, China was still very much a third world country (in terms of economic development, it IS still a third world country on many other measures). Then came Jun 1989...

I believe HK people accepted One Country Two System for a promised period of 50 years was hoping that by giving China 50 years, it would have progressed to a more liberal, democratic regime by then. With the benefits of hindsight, one should never have discounted the possibility of regression in political/ideological settings (in both China and HK in this case)

I think the world is finally waking up to the lies that CCP made over the years, especially with the handling (or the lack of) China Wuhan Virus, and the weak attempts to blame it to other countries such as USA and Europe!

Sort of agreed - though it seems the situation in the US has been deteriorating with the installation of "You-know-who"

I really, sincerely hope that's the case but even in my own social circle, there is still much cheap, low level nationalism "flooding"

These people are silly to think nothing will happen to them, but they seem to forget US sanctions are coming under "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act" and "Protect Hong Kong Act" - both are American laws.. They also seem to forget the pegging of HKD & USD is based on HK policy act 1992! Without the US government permission, the HK economy will collapse!

Details of the law emerges:

Interestingly Article 38 states:

Article 38
This Law shall apply to offences under this Law committed against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from outside the Region by a person who is not a permanent resident of the Region.

So it means it is applicable to everyone outside HK who are not even HK permanent residents. I.e. Everyone on Earth.

Technically even President Trump, our Prime minister can be arrested for saying such things against chinazi government

None of this augurs well for the survival of CX.

They are already rocky financially and being hammered by mainland airlines and the CCP (because they wouldn't sack any staff who attended a protest on their own time).

Pity, used to be one of the ways I travelled out of AU using points to LHR, CDG etc. I will unlikely be flying via HKG again after this carry-on and presume many others will be looking at alternate routes for future travel.

To be honest... I am looking forward to the death of this airline as they are supporting CCP!

So the UK government is going ahead with its offer for up to three million Hong Kong residents to be offered the chance to settle in the UK and ultimately apply for citizenship. These are HK residents who held, or were entitle to hold BNO passports in 1997.
I wonder what the CCP will say .

The expected response by the CCP is going to be “The west should mind their f...ing own business!” HK is part of China!

I support this 5 year BNO plan, but I wish it didn’t have to come to this! 😭

PM weighs safe haven offer to Hong Kong citizens
Australia will consider giving safe haven to Hong Kong citizens after China’s draconian national security laws came into effect.
Scott Morrison said on Thursday federal cabinet will look at a number of proposals on how to best help Hong Kong nationals who may look to move to Australia.

From The Australian.

I sincerely hope the Australian Government can open the border between Hong Kong and Australia soon so that they can rescue Hong Kongers from the evil hands of mainland China.

I hope that will become a reality soon... as most HK people are friendly and do appreciate democracy and freedoms if offered to them

And then once Australian government offered, I am sure China will once again attack Australia and ask its students don't come to Australia.

I think what we need is a united western front to protect Hong Kong, should China attacks us we should have a united response and do it in a way that will ensure China has nothing to say back.

I wont be surprised the CCP would do that to Australia - look at Covid investigation is a great example... and I think the world will do this after this virus killed and changed the way we live forever because of the lies of the CCP!

I know how you feel and had this "natural" sentiment. However, I then empathised with the management, in a sense, they have to do something perhaps contrary to their personal conscience, to save the business - for the protection of the employment of over tens of thousands employees, let alone the shareholders (including the general public, not only the major shareholders). Personally I find the then Chairman and CEO did the most noble job by making the nasty but life-saving decision for the "employees' and then left their respective roles voluntarily (so probably not for personal gain?!)

I definitely agree. Just to reiterate earlier comment that the scheme needs to be carefully crafted and diligently enforced to screen out infiltrators and free riders - there are too many...
