In yesterdays UK budget further increases were announced for longhaul APD (applicable on departing flights but not sub-24h layovers/transits) particularly in premium cabins

Long haul premium will go up from current GBP150 to GBP156 in April 2018 and GBP172 in April 2019

Shorthaul J frozen at GBP26
Short-haul Y frozen at GBP13
Long-haul Y goes up from GBP75 to GBP78 in April 18 then frozen

Private jets stung even more!

These APD taxes are getting (even more) ridiculous.

All the more reason not to fly out of the UK, especially on a long-haul J booking. It's actually cheaper to catch a train over to Paris and fly out of there.

Can I clarify; if my connection out of the UK is <24 hrs, I don't pay APD ... does this still apply if I enter the UK via immigration?

It's the transit being <24 hours that is the important bit.

What you do in that 24 hours is up to you, no impact to ticket
