UK and Europe 4 month sojourn!

On our first day we decided to do a canal cruise. Too be honest it was a bit lame but that could have been the guide we had and the cruise we chose. Still not a bad way to see the city.

This cruise could be a lot of laughs 🚬. Hope they have lots of nibbles 😂.

This would look familiar to any one who’s been to Hong Kong.

Don't mean to hijack your TR (loving it btw, keep it coming...) but that photo just gave me a flashback to a weekend trip to Amsterdam from London in the early 2000s with the future Mrs MattA, some friends of ours and some rather strait laced friends of theirs who we didn't know at all. Let's just say Mrs MattA and I had been off enjoying all that Amsterdam has to offer during the day prior to meeting the group on that very floating restaurant one evening. Made for a somewhat awkward couple of hours (lord knows what they must have thought of the two giggling idiots who had come along to dinner...)

Our accommodation in Amsterdam is a bit dated but at least it has room for two open suitcases! Plus the views aren’t too bad either.

If I may ask @Scash , which hotel/ area in Amsterdam?
We chose to do our recent overnighter in Haarlem - do love the pedestrian towns.

If you have time, and haven't been, we also really enjoyed The Hague especially Escher Museum and Mesdag Panorama.

Am enjoying your travels!

Thank you @Flyfrequently. We are staying at the Amsterdam House Hotel not far from the centre. The room was quite dated and showing signs of wear and could really do with a facelift but good views and location.

Still loving your photos. We loved Bruges, so many different types of beer and wonderful mussels! Great for cycling too!
The Dutch buildings are such beautiful architecture.

I’ve been MIA sorry so this post is retrospective as we’ve actually left Amsterdam. Day 2 saw us doing a couple of walking tours. The first one was an Anne Frank and WW2 tour and the second one a general walking tour. Both were good but I didn’t take any worthwhile photos (not sure if I was getting a bit photo‘d out after travelling for so long!).

The next day we got the train to Zaanse Schans which is not far out of Amsterdam. It is a lovely little town with historic cottages and working windmills.

The Eastern European part of the trip is now over and we’re back in Edinburgh for a bit of R&R. The weather when we returned to Edinburgh was not very pleasant 🥶🌧️

We then head to Paris on the 14th for a couple of Rugby World Cup games plus a bit of tripping around France. I’ll be a bit quiet over the next week or so but will be back on air when we’re in France.

I think there was more than light drizzle in Scotland so you were lucky. Have fun and don't stress about keeping trip reports up to date. We can wait ;)

We were getting a little restless so decided to head to York for a couple of nights. If you haven’t been there I would definitely recommend going. It’s a beautiful little town with so much history and lots of good places to eat and drink. We stayed at the Hampton by Hilton which was close to the train station and and easy walk to the town centre. I have way too many photos and it’s hard to choose!

York Minster and other various photos.
