hi all who have travelled to Kuala lumpur.

KL taxis are some of the worst in the world. Keen to try Uber next time Im there.

Whats been your experience with Kl Uber
What sort of vehicle are UberX, UberXL, UberBlack in KL?

Do you find the Uber fare estimate to be accurate?

Thanks in advance

Great experiences with Uber in KL. In fact I found that my Uber fares were the same or slightly below a legitimate taxi meter (although KL taxis, as you say, are shocking rip off merchants).

I found the Honda Accord was pretty common as an Uber car.

Grab (formerly MyTeksi) is the way to avoid taxi ripoffs.

Grab also has GrabCar network which is very similar to UberX, except no surging

Uber from KLIA to a hotel near KLCC cost MYR 89 on 12th Feb. For 2 pax, this is now cheaper and much more convenient than the recently fare hiked express train (which goes to Sentral).

It was spot on for my trip from KLIA.
That's because it was a fixed price of MYR 75 plus tolls.

For other journeys, the fare estimate, so far, had been good.

Is there a particular place at KLIA that you hail or wait for an Uber?

I think just use your Uber app it will detect you are at the airport.

You don't hail Uber as its a private car. You connect to uber car via app. Just use the Uber app as per normal - pickup point is at the kerbside - arrivals. It will be where private cars are allowed to go.

However its best to get a malaysian Sim card with internet data for your phone on arrival in KLIA . KLIA has sim card vendors in arrivals. Change your phone number to the malaysian number within the Uber app - settings then edit account before you use the app. That way the Uber car can contact you and vica versa

The app will either tell you or let you choose the exit door.

There was no need for a SIM for me at KLIA. The free wifi was enough. You might not always be able to trust that however.

I use Uber quite often when I'm back in KUL.

Unfortunately, as cars are quite expensive there (about double what they cost in AUS). You generally get smaller/older/cheaper cars compared to what you get in Australia.

UberBLACK has been Camry/Accord/Maxima's 100% of the time. Never had Alphards (like a luxurious Tarago) or BMW/Mercs/Audi's
UberX can be anything, I've seen Yaris's, Malaysian Protons and a bunch of other random older cars (Still better than Taxi's though).

Whatever you do, do not take Taxi's in KUL. They don't turn their air-conditioning, they are old and they rip you off. If you are really out of luck with Uber, stick with the Blue taxi's.

What do people do for airport transfers in KUL? I'm arriving next Friday night close to midnight.

Depends where your staying. Last airport train is 1am.

Or plenty of cabs

I used UBER both-ways for MYR 89 each time (fixed rate). It was fine both times, although it was quite a small car on the journey back to KLIA.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Will be Hyatt. Do I save much by taking the train and then getting a cab or Uber from Sentral?
