Does anyone know much about the visa on arrival in the UAE, especially around multi entry.

Planning on a trip to the US stopping in Dubai for a few days on both side as a bit of a break for the little ones.

I know there will be no issue on the way to US, stopping for a few days then heading over, but on the return will we be allowed entry again after say 3 weeks to again stopover for a few days before heading back to AU?

Most websites just give very vague information of 30 day visa on arrival, the only one that mentions anything on multiple entry is a website called visitdubai
"This is a multi-entry visa. The visa holder can consume the 30-day validity regardless of whether they are inside or outside the UAE – days spent outside the UAE are calculated from the 40-day validity of the visa."

We do something similar on a regular basis to visit our son who lives in Dubai. We usually visit for 10 days, then go to Europe for 2 weeks and then back to Dubai for a further 3 weeks or so. When we arrive the second time, they have always just given us another new 30 day tourist visa from that date.
You also can get a free tourist SIM starter pack from immigration official - it gives you a small starter allowance so you can call use internet and then head to Du or Etisalat the next day to buy an ongoing plan. The SIM expires when you leave the country, so you will need to get a second one on your second arrival - lesson learnt the hard way!
