UAE FF Opportunities? (Any experience / Advice)

Looking likely, that I will be taking up new employment in Dubai shortly and wondering if anyone here has any experience with FF point opportunities over that side of the world? I have done a little research and from that looks like I will be back in cattle class pretty quickly!

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Any idea of which alliance or partnership you want to be a part of or are currently with?
What will be your travel/flying plans?

Currently, Krisflyer is the main program used but looking like little to no opportunities available over there that I can see. The obvious two programs that side would be Emirates and Etihad with any branded cards, which seem to offer no sign-on bonus.
Will be fully relocated so no FIFO point gains to be had.
