I understand that PER-SIN on SQ in J is 62.5k TK miles one way. If I see award availability on the SQ website, does this correspond to availability with TK? If not, is the UA website the best bet to search for availability?

I would say UA is the best as that gives a *A result where as SQ you will get what is released to their KF members.

Wow thats a lot. You know its like a 4.5 hour flight on a regional J?!

I was hoping that wasn't the case as UA is only giving my TG options via BKK but it makes sense.

I thought it was high too but that was the advice I got on FlyerTalk. It could be wrong, however.

I'm faced with just under 63k nearing expiration and I'm looking to burn them. TK does have a store, however, which would be the backup.
 
Well I snagged a 52.5k PER-SIN Y seat on SQ using TK miles and it wasn't easy. The Australian 1800 number takes you to their Turkish call centre and the language barrier is still a bit of a problem.

However, the agent couldn't give me the taxes. He said because it was a partner carrier I would have to contact Singapore Airlines. I quickly pointed out that wasn't right but he insisted I need to contact a TK ticket office to get the taxes and to pay. That was last night. This morning I phoned again and was told the same: the only way to pay for a ticket on a partner carrier is at a TK office.

I managed to locate another local number for TK in Australia (1800 447636). Selecting option three gets you to an Australian employee. The best he could offer was to send them an email with the PNR and I would get an email back with their bank details in order to transfer payment. Additionally, both he and the agent I'd spoken with earlier today in Turkey were adamant it's possible to book a Miles&Smiles seat via the Star website. After several minutes on hold he couldn't work out how actually that was done but remained certain it was possible.

I'm kind of happy to be getting rid of my miles.

It's taken several days for the Sydney office to get back to me. The taxes on this Y PER-SIN are an extortionate $258.22. I can purchase a QF one way fare for $336. I don't think it's worth it. I might as well spend them in their pathetic store.
 
Their redemptions between Australia and Asia are not very attractive. Might change next year when TK metal comes to SYD.
 
If it wasn't for the poor website functionality; the language barrier at the call centre; and the need to go into the office to pay fees, I'm sure there'd be some decent value in TK miles... :confused:
Certainly there is a pretty wide definition of where 'Oceania' extends to and being able to take awards internal to the region could be useful.

I am not sure what you mean by "go into the office to pay fees". I have redeemed TK flights and have been able to do it all online.

Booked WF on SAS stock and was working on no *G benefits... Bingo, flashed the card and avoided about €150 of excess baggage Saved a bundle on SAS too.

Currently sitting in a completely empty SAS lounge in Tromso - Thanks TK

Just had my Elite Plus renewed for another 2 years despite no travel on TK metal in the last 12 months. TK has a great system where you get 2 years and to maintain Elite Plus you need either 40,000 miles in the first year or 60,000 over two years. Stitched mine up during the first !

I thought it 25k in the first year or 37.5k over two years.
