Turkish Airlines joins Star Alliance

It was announced quite a while back and they've been in member-elect mode for quite a while. Here's the *A media release from 2006:

Not as whacky as the AI and Egyptair announcements last year. I think *A, LH in particular has to stop focussing on quantity (and duplication) at the expense of quality.

I would not have thought there are many quality major airlines that are not already alligned in one of the 3 major alliances?

Malaysian, Jet, Kingfisher, Virgin Atlantic, some of the Middle Easterns, Alaskan, some African carrier whose name escapes me now but i think it's already in bed with AF/KL.

I was so disappointed when the SWISS candidacy for OW fell through. :(
