A relative of mine is flying out of Sydney in a few weeks and looking to claim TRS for an item worth around $5500 but he bought the item with my credit card whereas the receipt is under his name. Therefore, has anyone managed to successfully claim TRS under this circumstance where the payment method name is different from the receipt?

My understanding is the same - so long as invoice name is correct and the actual refund is paid into an account or card in the name of the traveller, then you're fine - but I personally think it also comes down to the mood of the officer on the day. Be extra polite, have all your docs in order, goods ready to inspect etc, and make their life as easy as possible, and they're more likely to reciprocate.

As others have said, I also don't think it would be an issue.

Usually the tax receipt is separate to the credit card receipt. There is no requirement to show the credit card receipt either. I'd do the claim online and have the tax receipt and goods ready to go. Even with the credit card name on the tax receipt, I doubt they're going to be looking that hard.
