TRS Gold Coast?

Hi There,

I cannot find this query….

Flying to USA from Gold Coast airport - Syd-Lax.
Can I do TRS claim at Gold Coast airport as it’s the start of an international trip ( even though it’s the domestic leg ) Or, do I need to wait until Syd airport ?
If it can be done at Gold Coast… will it be open prior to a 6 am flight ?

You can only claim at your last port of departure from Australia, so SYD in your case: Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS)

You won't clear customs in Gold Coast so you cannot TRS in Gold Coast, you'll have to do it in Sydney. In my experience it can be a bit hard to fit it into your transit depending on how long the line is at the time (ime the line in Sydney can get up to ~45min long).

If you item is oversized or needs to be checked in, you'll have to ask your airline to short-check your bags to SYD, collect them in Sydney, get them inspected, then re-check your bags in Sydney.
