Sorry I didnt take any photos.
CDG - DOH - BKK
CDG - DOH flight was on a A340-600. I arrived quite early so there was no line at check in. I had checked in online so I used the bag drop that was easy and efficent. I was over the luggage allowance by quite a bit but was not changed. I am a burgundy member so maybe that made a difference. Flight was full and there were no delays. The papers are now gone and replaced by an "environmentally friendly" menu on the screen. The menu cuts into your IFE and is displayed on board. The staff were attentive as per usual for a Qatar flight. This are slowly starting to slip though. The hot towels have been replaced by hot paper towels which are pretty pointless as they go cold in about three seconds and food is not as good as is used to be. I had the beef noodles which is still nice, it was served with a side of veggies, bread roll and chocolate brownie. Very filling. About an hour prior to landing we were offered a chicken roll but I was still full so passed on the option. There were not any drink services during the flight but you could go and get water if you wanted it or use the call bell as the staff are quite attentive.
Transfer as per normal at Doha is not fun and the airport is beyond bad. Alas the new one opens in December so you just gave to suck it up if you are flying before. You dont want a long transfer here without lounge access.
DOH - BKK on a new 777-333ER. This flight was a lot better. The staff seemed happier. The inflight entertainment was better as was the leg room and the plane was nicer with the dimmed blue cabin lights in Economy. The meal was almost identical, however there was no menus as all not paper or on the screens. This flight did have normal hot towels and as it was a night flight there were amenity kits in economy. This flight was more what you would expect from QR and top notch. The staff could not be faulted and the service was great. Again towards the end of the flight we were offered a snack which was the chicken roll. More than ample for a 6hr flight.
Overall a bit inconsistent with their product offering. Both flights were about 6hrs so they should offer the same service. The 777 is a lot more enjoyable to travel with that the A340. It has more entertainment options and a seat pitch.
Overall I would still recommend flying Qatar.....over European competitors and other GCC carriers.....still think though SQ is better but QR are usually cheaper and have good one-way fares.
