It started with a 4 hour drive to Perth, myself, wife and 14 yo girl and 11 yo boy, stayed over in Perth the night at the Formula 1, the following morning the car was left at the long term parking area, checked in for the Qantas flight to Sydney via Melbourne. This was a QFF flight for 4 and my first use of QFF points. We arrived in Sydney around 9.45 pm and booked in at the Formula 1 which turned out was only a short walk as I had been told. In the morning we casually made our way to the international terminal after deciding not to take a quick run into the city.

Flying jetstar for the first time, boarding was 1 hour late with no communication as to what the hold up was for 45 minutes of that, after waiting on the runway while 9 other planes landed we eventually got of the ground almost 2 hours late.

The flight was uneventful, I am a economy flyer so everything was as it came, I did pre pay for the AVOD entertainment units which were well worth the $10 per person, however we also pre paid for the meal service $40 per person which we were disappointed to find we could have bought the same food and drinks for $25 on the plane.

Arrived in Honolulu, took a taxi limo to the hotel in Waikiki which the kids were impressed by. We booked into the Ohana Waikiki Malia on Kuhio st $140 per night for 4 which turned out to be clean well serviced and within walking distance of everything. We played the tourist for the next 5 days, lots of walking the streets, late nights and, more shopping than a man should ever have to do. Me and the boy went to the local indoor gun range 4 nights in a row and shot everything from .22 revolvers to an AK 47 with glocks and uzi’s in between, this was a big hit with the boy.

5 days on and we moved to a self contained beach unit on the north shore at Waimea $151.00 per night that was tidy enough but well worn, the location and the fact that it was absolute beach front was brilliant. The 14 days here was pure r&r, lots of bike riding, swimming, snorkelling, surfing, and taking the public bus to Haleiwa, Wahiawa, and Mililani, hired a car and drove around the island, did Pearl Harbour, the flea markets and watched a scene being filmed for the lost tv production.

Last 2 days were back at the same Waikiki hotel that we started before we heading home the way we came, great trip.

Thank you! For helping me decide on what holiday destination I want to visit next!!!!! :D

I forgot to say, that after checking with telstra whether I could get a mobile connection with my prepaid phone on the island and was told no I was suprised to find that on turning my phone on I got a connection with at&t and had a phone service the whole time ( only used it for sms though).

I have booked this same hotel for our family holiday in August. Can you tell me more about the hotel (pros & cons) as well as any tips you would give about staying there?

Many thanks

Hi Flying Fox, For our family of 4 I couldn't fault the hotel and would be more than happy to stay there again, it was clean well presented, the rooms were serviced daily, tv, fridge, in room safe nice decore. its location is maybe a good 10 min walk to the duke monument at Waikiki beach, and it has 2 convienience stores within 100 metres as well as a family restaurant (IHOP) connected to reception. The hotel swipe card entitles you to unlimited free trolley rides around Waikiki/Honolulu (yellow and red trolley) which is great for getting to the Alamoana centre among other places.

The public transport "the bus" stops just outside the hotel, so you can easily use that to get to attractions like Pearl Habour, the Aloha Stadium Flea markets or just about anything else you wish to see.

Reception was able to book a airport shuttle at a competitive price at the end.

We can't really come up with any negatives, at $140.00au a night for the 4 of us we were expecting something fairly ordinary so were pleasantly surprised.

If there is anything else I can tell you just let me know.

Not a bad hotel. I prefer the Waikiki Circle on Kalakaua - Ocean view room. The hotel is 3* but has a magnificent view. Out the front door to the ABC shop and a 6 pack of Kona Longboard or over the road and into the warm waters of Waikiki. Just a short walk to all the Waikiki beachfront shopping and night time action

Why is this? Anyone know why pre-ordering is more expenisve?

I had wondered where the $40 came from. Perhaps you were thinking of the total of the feedme and AVOD :)
