It started with a 4 hour drive to Perth, myself, wife and 14 yo girl and 11 yo boy, stayed over in Perth the night at the Formula 1, the following morning the car was left at the long term parking area, checked in for the Qantas flight to Sydney via Melbourne. This was a QFF flight for 4 and my first use of QFF points. We arrived in Sydney around 9.45 pm and booked in at the Formula 1 which turned out was only a short walk as I had been told. In the morning we casually made our way to the international terminal after deciding not to take a quick run into the city.
Flying jetstar for the first time, boarding was 1 hour late with no communication as to what the hold up was for 45 minutes of that, after waiting on the runway while 9 other planes landed we eventually got of the ground almost 2 hours late.
The flight was uneventful, I am a economy flyer so everything was as it came, I did pre pay for the AVOD entertainment units which were well worth the $10 per person, however we also pre paid for the meal service $40 per person which we were disappointed to find we could have bought the same food and drinks for $25 on the plane.
Arrived in Honolulu, took a taxi limo to the hotel in Waikiki which the kids were impressed by. We booked into the Ohana Waikiki Malia on Kuhio st $140 per night for 4 which turned out to be clean well serviced and within walking distance of everything. We played the tourist for the next 5 days, lots of walking the streets, late nights and, more shopping than a man should ever have to do. Me and the boy went to the local indoor gun range 4 nights in a row and shot everything from .22 revolvers to an AK 47 with glocks and uzi’s in between, this was a big hit with the boy.
5 days on and we moved to a self contained beach unit on the north shore at Waimea $151.00 per night that was tidy enough but well worn, the location and the fact that it was absolute beach front was brilliant. The 14 days here was pure r&r, lots of bike riding, swimming, snorkelling, surfing, and taking the public bus to Haleiwa, Wahiawa, and Mililani, hired a car and drove around the island, did Pearl Harbour, the flea markets and watched a scene being filmed for the lost tv production.
Last 2 days were back at the same Waikiki hotel that we started before we heading home the way we came, great trip.
