Travelling with an infant under 2, but with own seat

Is a BP holder on the flight manifest?
So, if a comfort seat is bought, and the tot successfully gets onto the flight, and uses the comfort seat, should I say anything happen, and the tot does not have a BP, then s/he is not on the flight manifest, meaning not on the flight, eh?
Yes, I know, when you travelled in Jun last year, you paid the tix for tot, and he had a BP.
But if you buy 3 adult tixs, and a comfort seat, but don't mention the tot, will s/he get a BP?
In the airline pov, its just 3 adults travelling.
Penny wise, pounds foolish.
Look at that Indonesian Air Asia flight, no one expected it to go down. At least with those on the flight manifest, insurance will have to pay out to the families in the end, seeing they found the debris. Or the MH17 flight.
Best to get the tots name on the flight manifest, so that should anything happen, insurance should pay.
I certainly would pay for a seat if I had a tot, and s/he was travelling with me. But I am a confirmed bachelor pooch, so no puppies/tots, but if I had, you get the drift, I would have the tot a tix.

Hi AustraliaPoochie
Regardless of the seat an infant always has a boarding pass, it doesnt always have a seat number on it (e.g. bassinet used).

Am either going to buy 3 adult ticket and 1 infant, or 3 adult and 1 child, the comfort seat is only if i buy an infant ticket (as then they dont get a seat number - but still a boarding pass). Hope that clears it up.

Not sure how a child can get on an international flight without a boarding pass ;)

There has been no suggestion to buy 3 adult tickets and a comfort seat. There has been no suggestion to not mention the child/infant. This has already been clearly stated. The options are 3 adults and a child or 3 adults, 1 infant and a comfort seat.

YES An infant with a boarding pass is on the manifest. They scan the infant's BP at the gate!!! The infant can only get a BP if they have an infant ticket.

As for the rest of your barking it is all noise with no foundation in reality.

Is it possible to buy a comfort seat for a child...? That is, at child rates minus the taxes...

The infant needs to be booked on Qantas international flights, so gets a boarding pass. The only thing they don't get is a seat allocation, on the boaring pass it just says INF. Of course book a childs fare or adult fare for an infant and they get an allocated seat. Book a comfort seat that would belong to one of the paying passengers.

Now that is an excellent question/suggestion. I guess one possible negative is that the comfort seat SC might go to the child. If that's a consideration.

Edit: just realised that a child comfort seat requires buying a child fare, which gets a seat anyway. Ie 3 adults, 1 child, 1 child comfort seat. 5 seats in total.

This was also the case for Qantas Domestic last time I travelled with an infant. Admittedly some time ago.

We took Little Miss to Europe at 18mths. We got her own seat for the big flights (Aus-UK), but didn't for our intra-Europe flights.
We got caught with excess luggage (pram + her suitcase) on LH going from Venice - Germany. Did not have issues with BA or Air France. Eur220 charge, I think it was, Eur10/kg.

I would absolutely advocate your son having his own seat. He then gets a luggage allowance (IIRC, kids sitting on laps maybe get to have a pram, but not a pram + suitcase). Little Miss didn't need a lot of luggage, but having her own suitcase allowed us to bring nappies, etc, and not have to worry about them for the first two weeks or so. Using up the nappies also gave us room for new shiny toys to come home with us. :)
You don't have to have the child on your lap during meal services, and during the interminable wait for trays/plates to be cleared. At 18mths, they typically want to move all the time, so the extra space of the extra seat will really help. He may also be too short to be able to watch IFE very well (though my Little Miss's issue may have been more with her eyesight).
My Little Miss also basically walked all the way to Singapore from Brisbane.
Another random thought - bring spare clothes for you on the flight. Little Miss had a poo explosion during turbulence between Singapore and London. I was SO glad I had yoga pants to change into, and was even happy to pay almost GBP20 for dry cleaning said jeans ...

We travelled SYD-HNL last year with our then 8 month old. He happily sat in the bassinet and flirted with everyone who went past. We have been contemplating this flight again in the next few months as a last hurrah before our 2nd child comes along. Presently he is 18 months old and I couldn't imagine anything worse than him only lap for 9 hours so we have also considered buying him a child fare. I presume he would just need to be a lap baby for take off and landing as he is still under two. Otherwise he can easily sit in the chair but I expect he will just want to walk laps of the plane!

IIRC that yes under 2 years old a lap belt extension is necessary, even over 2 I sometimes requested one to help contain Little Miss Altair.
Now at 3 years old she is more than happy to sit with headpones on looking at Hi 5 sing and tell stories.:)

I will be travelling with a 20 month old 'infant' soon. Flying SQ and MH PER-SIN-HKG-SIN-KUL-PER and booked a child seat.

Had to call SQ to book the flights over the phone as their website wouldn't allow booking a child seat for an infant.
MH recommended putting in a different year of birth, then calling up immediately to change it.
Tried booking D7 - they recommended booking a comfort seat and infant seat. Problem is comfort seat for D7 is the same price as an adult fare, so quite pointless.

Never thought it could be so difficult!
