Hello,

Does anyone know how I can assign a seat and order Book the Cook meals when travelling on a Singapore Airlines flight booked as a VA Codeshare flight number?

Thanks.

Not sure how i did it but i booked an online reward flight with VA and then rang SQ direct and they booked me on the seats i wanted and also gave me an SQ reservation number so i can log into the SQ website if i want to alter things again. These were business seats so not sure if that made a difference.

I phoned VA and got the SQ reservation/booking number and I then phoned SIA.

cheers,

As an add on to this. I was always under the impression you couldnt seat select when booking on VA for a SQ codeshare. Everyone has complained about this here before. The only reason I rang up VA was that when I booked for my family of 4 my booking came through and for some reason I had been assigned a seat but no one else had. Then as discussed before when I rang VA they said ring SQ and then I got the reservation number and was able to adjust all my seats etc. I wouldnt have rung up if none of us had been assigned seats as I assumed you couldnt seat select.

Is it now possible to select seats on a VA codeshare flight?

Probably not in economy. Lots of passengers booking SQ codes on SQ flights struggle finding available seats to select up until about 72-96 hrs before departure.

Are you saying SQ bookings are also having issues selecting seats in economy?

Is that the underlying issue? If I book VA codeshare flights I should in theory now be able to get SQ booking reference and be able to select seats online? But the issue is glitches on SQ website do not allow seats to be selected in economy.

That's not good at all. I don't like not knowing where I will be seated at time of booking.

The issue is not the website glitches it's the availability of suitable seats. You'll probably be able to select a seat that you don't want to sit in. SQ holds back chunks of the seat plan for mysterious reasons (theory is they are for families, group bookings and/or codeshare passengers) such that unless you book early you may not be able to see many (or indeed any) free seats - other than those you have to pay for. However almost without fail it seems to open up about 24 hrs before online checkin opens, even when flight is quite full. Of course SQ elites have a few rows at the front reserved for allocation, but don't know if this extends to VA elites.

I did the "get the SQ booking reference and phone SQ" for seat allocation when I flew SQ codeshare a couple of months back. I was allocated seats which SQ wouldn't allow me to alter and after initially being told codeshare seat allocation wasn't possible. In the end I did not end up sitting in any of them. When boarding passes were issued at check-in I had different seats allocated. That was across 4 separate flights. At each sector I was always rushing to get the flight so didn't have any time to try for better seats.

Flying SQ economy the only expectation I would have is an aisle seat somewhere in the cabin. I don't mind if it's not forward aisle. I can even pay the amount required for exit rows.

The only condition on my part is I don't do middle seats. Ever. So I will try to secure the seats I want. Would be nice to know at time of booking to avoid possible loss of airfare.

That's the advantage of booking on SQ website on SQ code. You can book your seats before finalising booking. Not possible if booking VA code.

That I understand. I will be booking Flexi Saver on SQ website. I just wanted to know if now possible to select seats on VA codeshare.

I always check availability on SIA and then phone them to request specific seats. Ask VA for both VA and SIA reference numbers once you have booked.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
