Hello all

im posting in hope of your expert advice

I have booked BA flights SYDSINLHR return in W
and LGWCTA Y class and DBVLGWin Y class cabins

im a total novice on which program to join to
get the most miles.

Also can anyone recommend a program that excellerates
status and roughly how many points I could expect
to earn out from this trip ?
I'm eternally grateful for any/all advice
cheers

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

It really depends on a heap of factors. For a start not all whY class fares earn at the same rate.

If crediting to QF then GKLMNOQSV fares only earn at 25% Only BHY earn at 100%.

If crediting to BA then a similar set of restrictions to earning Tier points comes up.

That is just on earning...

If you live in Australia and travel infrequently best to join Qantas
Join QF freq flyer for nil cost via https://www.everydayrewards.com.au/
American Airlines are another option. BA not an viable option for Aust residents, as they do/did not allow Aust residents to sign up

On the SYD-SIN-LHR is counted as SYD-LHR unless you have a stopover - change of flight number in SIN

To get status you need to fly a lot

What you earn is one part of the equation, what you want to use the points for is the more important point, not much point crediting to a program where its hard to spend points or uneconomical, or one where there are few local partners to build up additional points.

Do you ever get to the states?

The AA program has pluses and minuses, with a lot of the pluses dependent on being in the USA at some point. However, at least for the moment, the requirement to take 4 AA flights to earn status is "ignored"

SIN-LHR in premium Y round trip (in the same CALENDAR year) will earn you AA Gold status (EQP = 10573*1.5*2 = 31719). 25% mileage bonus and the ability to check in at the business or One World Ruby counter. OTOH the approx 25K redeemable miles earned will permit the redemption of a round trip on QF anywhere in Australia and NZ or a one way to SEAsia from Australia. Not a lot but probably more than with the QF program. And do it again and you have lounge access.

Where if you already had four QF flights then you could also get QF silver with the 4 premium Y segments. 240 SC on a single flight number 300 SC if changing flights in Singapore

Your mileage may vary. Wandering is sometimes educational
