Travelling from NZ to the UK - an option for desperate aussies?

I think you need to stop and reflect on the fact that three out of four outward exemptions were being refused last year before the exemption criteria were significantly tightened.

I dont need to reflect because i didnt make the decision to deny those people the ability to leave. Direct your frustration at the decison makers not me.

I do not personally think there should be any restrictions on leaving, if aussies want to risk travel i say go ahead as long as you dont want tax payers to fund your trip back via a repatriation flight.

Everyone I know personally who has applied to leave and has been a dual national has been approved. Most for business but also one who went to Greece for fertility treatment, another who went to settle an estate after a death of a parent.

I dont know if the people i know had better prepared applications or as you think just got lucky, i just know they were able to go without any real hassle.

The return caps should be known but in some states can be unexpectedly paused or reduced significantly without warning if there are local cases.

There is nothing to lose by applying to leave if you feel you have a valid reaeon and are prepared that the way back to Australia can be long and expensive.

Is it as easy to get back in? I suppose return via NZ if an NZ citizen?
No, even for Aus citizens/PRs there's the arrival cap. An NZ citizen could return to NZ, do the MIQ there then hop on a green zone flight to Australia, that would be far easier I suspect.

And it is that very arbitrariness that has led to the UN raising concerns about the rights of Australian citizens to enter and leave their country. Not that it appears to have done any good 😞

I’ll say it yet again, Australia could not care less about the UN’s opinion on our human rights record. It was never going to have any impact.
