Travelling Frankfurt to Prague

Hi - I am flying Sydney - Frankfurt with qantas next year and then onto Prague but have not booked the Frankfurt - Prague leg as yet. Can anyone tell me the best airline to go with so that I can utilise qantas club membership while waiting for flights in Frankfurt. thx

You’ve posted in the wrong sub-forum, but I’m sure a moderator can fix that up.

As for lounge access with QC, you’d only get into a BA lounge in Europe and to do so you’d have to fly BA and without looking I wouldn’t think BA would do a leg between Frankfurt and Prague, maybe via London, but not otherwise.

If you were a QF Gold, there’d be more options. I think your best bet would be to buy a business class ticket, that’d get you into a lounge, but not because of your QC membership.

Not that many more over having QC in Europe, frankly. For QC members, flying BA and transiting LHR is a possibility - but I'd only do that if it was significantly cheaper than flying direct. Considering there'd be no priority check-in or baggage, it's not worth it for having lounge access alone.

Flying J intra-Europe is also a big waste of time; FRA-PRG is a v short flight so I'd really just look at a convenient direct flight with LH and factor a little cash in for a drink at an airport bar.

The lounge I was thinking of was the CX lounge in Frankfurt, but it’s not amazing anyway.

As for pay-on-entry lounges, this link suggests there are 2 such lounges:

Alternatively, if you are not an airline club member, you can buy a day pass for one of the airport's two Europe City Club (ECC) lounges. They offer complimentary snacks, comfortable seating and self-service business machines.

And of the airlines flying out of Frankfurt to Prague, only LH and Czech airlines fly the route direct, and neither are in OW, so you wouldn’t even get in with SG.

I had a quick look at the train, as I noticed that Frankfurt and prague are quite close on the Orient Express map. But it seems they are not that close, with a typical journey time of 6 hours.

I travelled to Prague via Frankfurt last month on bus, and it was a very easy trip. When you factor in getting to the airport, checking in, waiting, flying, arriving at the airport, getting in to town etc. you're not really saving that much time. It's a nice trip, and goes via Nurembourg also. Bustickets door heel Europa - boek online and is very cheap!

I found that for any flights into PRG a lot of them were useless going either via LON or FRA. That is why going through 9 countries most of our travel was either train or bus (well, only 1 bus leg ).

Was there anything in particular you were after? I did all the booking of the trips, was a great learning experience and there are things I would do different next time e.g. not go from Amsterdam to Prague, it's definitely the longest way to do it! That being said though, the 14 bus trip wasn't too bad I slept pretty much the whole way.

Nothing that wouldn't require some detail. Mainly to see what you would and wouldn't recommend. To get an appreciation of the destinations and the transport options used (mostly train and 1 bus by the sound of it) Our trip took several months to plan and we modifiied destinations a bit to fit around a few key requirements. I guess really I'm interested in Benchmarking myself. But I'll live without.

All train legs were in 2nd class, except where mentioned otherwise.

Flew into Frankfurt on QF, then train (booked on DB) from Frankfurt to Berlin.

Train (booked on DB) from Berlin to Amsterdam.

Bus (booked on Eurolines) from Amsterdam to Prague.

Train (booked on CDOS.cz) from Prague to Vienna.

Train (booked on OEBB.at) from Vienna to Venice.

Trains (couldn't pay for online with the Trenitalia website, bought our tickets on arrival into Venice) from Venice to Florence to Rome with a mixture of EuroStar Italia and Trenitalia. The Eurostar from Venice to Florence was a very nice ride, even in coach.

Flew (booked on Vueling's website) from Rome to Barcelona, and Barcelona to Paris.

Train (booked on Eurostar) from Paris to London, first class.

Train (booked on National East Coast Express) from London to Edinburgh, first class.

Flew (booked on BA.com) from Edinburgh to London, then (booked on QF) London to Perth via Singapore.

Like you, I spent many weeks planning and booking the trip and it all went suprisingly very well; we were most pleased with the results and learnt a lot along the way!

We did Barcelona to Rome on train, with a stop in Nice. That was a killer, in hindsight, should have flown.

Just did a mock booking with Lufthansa.
Plenty of options. Cheapest fare in May was A$194 return.
Pretty good for Lufthansa. No hassle at all when you're already in frankfurt anyway. Quickest and most reliable way in my opinion. Don't waste your money on J.Only 1hr flight.
