Hello! I am new to this website so forgive me for asking a question if it has already been answered. I am flying from New York to Bangkok via Cathay Pacific. I was told from the representative I would only earn 1/2 miles if I chose to earn the miles on my Qantas FF number and full points using Asia Miles. My question is would it be better to sign up for Asia Miles and then transfer points to Qantas or just go w/ my Qantas FF number. I'm sure there is a cost associated w/ transferring. I already have a ton of points on Qantas and love the airline so I don't really want to transfer points out and leave them for Asia, unless of course it makes more sense to do so. Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

Melissa

AFAIK, you can not transfer points between FF programs. If you are already on QFF, you might as well credit these flights to your QFF account. Just make sure that you are booked into a booking class (there is a thread about it recently) that is an eligible booking class for SC and points on the QFF.
From my rough understanding, it takes a lot of time to build up status on CX, so if you do like Qantas, you may as well credit the flights to the Qantas program.

And by the way, welcome to AFF;)

There is no mechanism to transfer miles from Cathay Pacific Asia Miles to Qantas FF. Once miles are in Asia Mile account they can only be used to redeem awards through Asia Miles. The same apples to points in a QFF account.
