Hi all new to aff and it's a very informative site. Can someone tell me what is classed as a flight sector. Eg you have to fly 4 sectors in one year and reach 700 sc to reach sg. I'm flying Mel via sin lhr and then on to vie and return . Is Mel to sin 1 sector or Mel to lhr 1 sector even tho it's all one flight number being qf9. Thanks for your help in advance:-|

I am not sure that there is any real definition of 'sector' in the QFF terms and conditions. For the purposes of getting credit to QFF they use the more general term 'Flight' and this is defined as

one way travel (without a Stopover) on a scheduled air service with a single flight number (even if the travel includes a change of aircraft). If travel includes a change of flight number, each change is a new Flight even if there is no change of aircraft;

In your case travelling from MEL to LHR on a single flight number (and not breaking the journey in SIN), will be regarded as one flight for the purposes of credit to QFF.

In terms of the 4 sectors, the actual terms are that you need 4 eligible flight segments, and this is defined as consecutive points on the itinerary - so again MEL-LHR will be counted as one flight segment, unless you also stopover in SIN.

And the flights have to be on QF metal: LHR to VIE, for instance, isn't a Qantas flight, so that trip doesn't qualify for your segment tally.

It depends on how it was booked in the GDS.

If it was booked on the through flight, as in :
1. QF 9 Y 09JUL MELLHR AK1 1530 #0540
then it would count as one sector.

However if the sectors were split and it was booked as:
1. QF 9 Y 09JUL MELSIN AK1 1530 2120
2. QF 9 Y 09JUL SINLHR AK1 2305 #0540
Then it would count as 2 sectors...both stop and refuel in SIN, but one is counted as 2 flights, the other only 1.

if its a single flight number and your ticket (e-ticket receipt) says MEL-LHR then that is one sector. If you change flight number at SIN or stop overnight at SIN or your e-ticket receipt says MEL-SIN-LHR than its two sectors.

So QF9 MEL-SIN connecting to QF31 SIN-LHR would be two sectors. While QF9 ticketed as MEL-LHR is one sector.

However if the sectors were split and it was booked as:
1. QF 9 Y 09JUL MELSIN AK1 1530 2120
2. QF 9 Y 09JUL SINLHR AK1 2305 #0540

You would be hoping that Revenue Management don't notice that booking though.

qantas said:
Flights that are booked to circumvent through availability will be cancelled without warning.

Can easily overcome that issue by booking QF31 SIN-LHR instead of QF9, both on 388 metal and similar departure times.

ok thx guys. @jetlagged is it counted if flying lhr to vie on ba with a qf flight number? senerio- im a bronze club member with 170 sc at the moment. can never reach silver as points always expire in november. travel to europe twice a year normally on redeal ticket, add a few domestic trips in that year. been a member for 5 years. lol wife joins and in the first year makes silver. cant belive it. so if i book a j ticket and fly qf 9 and return qf 10 and lhr to vie return is a ba flight but ticketed as qf and not ba will i reach gold ? will be travelling in june or july. if i do make gold is this effective immediatly so in actual fact i get more than 12 months of value as my sc expire end of november.and wife her anniversary is end of january, she made siver just gone and she has no sc to date. assuming she gets 25% bonus sc will she make gold also on this trip. another question is once gold and in that 12 months you dont get enough sc to retain gold do you go back to silver or bronze. :shock:

And the flights have to be on QF metal: LHR to VIE, for instance, isn't a Qantas flight, so that trip doesn't qualify for your segment tally.

That isnt correct - just needs to be a QF flight number:

6 NOV 10 QF 3955 BUSINESS 13NOV10 SINGAPORE/DELHI 2,580 645 2,580 5,805 100~

The ~ indicates a qualifying flight. That was on 9W metal with a QF flight number.

In terms of the calculations:

MEL-LHR in J = 240 SCs
LHR-VIE in J = 60 SCs
VIE-LHR in J = 60 SCs
LHR-MEL in J = 240 SCs

Total = 500 SCs plus your opening 170 = 670 SCs

If LHR-VIE-LHR is in whY reduce that by 90 SCs
