My husband and I are embarking on a 1-2 year nomadding through Europe. Regular travel/medical insurance won't cover us (they usually only allow for each trips to be 45 day duration).

We are considering Genki.

Has anyone had a claim with them? Or would suggest alternate?

Not sure what you mean by regular travel insurance has a 45 day limit?
That’s nonsense, and I suspect you meant annual policies, which you don’t want.
You just go to practically any, and every, insurance site and put in your dates and location of travel.
Now- cover for more than a year may be slightly hard, I’ve not tried. My suggestion is return to Aus within a year for a day and ensure you buy a second policy.

But it may also be easy to cover the second year in 1 go. Just never tried it myself

Example. Random site. Rac wa was the first one that came to me, of course the quote is terrible but it illustrates my point.
It does max out at 1 year, though

Read the fine print before you say it is ‘nonsense’. Insurance for short term travellers is easy.

No single trip more than 45 days.

Tick travel insurance, 355 day policy for worldwide excluding America, $1300 for a couple, basic medical only plan.

I put in random ages of 50, so the quote may increase or decrease slightly based on your actual age.

This insurance is only the basics… medical and some liability.

It’s absolutely nonsense and I’ve even posted a quote picture

As I said before, you are talking about annual policies. You DO NOT want an annual multi trip policy.
You want a year long single trip policy.

I’ve read many many PDS because I’ve written a guide on travel insurance

What you need to look for is a single trip policy. In most cases you can put in dates up to 1 year. If you search on the internet for "long term travel insurance" you'll get quite a few options. You don't want a multi-trip policy, because as you say, these are designed for people doing multiple short term trips in a year, usually less than 45 days each time.

I haven't heard of Genki but SafetyWing gets mentioned a lot for nomads and I haven't heard anything bad about them. They have a travel/medical option.

I’ve had another look - yes you are correct, I need a single trip not multi trip.

Based on that your options are now pretty much limitless if you return within a year.
I suspect that longer than a year will severely limit your options though.

Thanks for your information. I'm researching what my best options are which include best medical, travel etc. Where can I read your guide? Or where would you suggest looking to find which ones are the best please?

Also, on the same note, did you find any that will insure $10,000 hearing aids?

Thanks for your help.

My guide is limited to a specific market, so it’s not particularly helpful to you.
For your hearing aid, I guess if you insure it as a named item it shouldn’t matter what it is. So after the quote starts you usually have the opportunity to add any extra single items that go above the pds limit.

For companies I recommend, I suggest any with a PDS you are happy with.
At an absolute minimum unlimited cover for medical and evac/repat. And then enough cancellation cover that you are happy with.

My usual approach, and it takes me a couple of hours each year, is to open 10-15 links and start quotes. Don’t bother with your pre existing stuff yet.
Just compared the basics, and close any tab/link that doesn’t have the bare minimum criteria.

Then add your hearing aids in or the conditions and see what is left.
Then look at their coverage for delays etc. like is it $200 for 12 hours or $500 for 6.

Hopefully that’s a start!

I looked at ways to find extended travel insurance

I suspect most banking institutions had a tie in to one provider or another
The freebies on the credit card appear to have capped time limits

Yet
Even on the Qantas website you could use your travel dates for it to calculate “their” premium
So when I did different dummy bookings it priced it. Asked on length of trip

Chances are a long term trip will be a longer risk and this may impact the cost

The travel insurance that comes with the CBA Ultimate MC includes trips up to 12 months. And if you spend more than $4000 in a month the fee is waived for that month. (Otherwise $35 / month.)
