Travel Insurance when resident in a different country

Currently living in PNG (But am a kiwi) and have not really bothered with insurance when holidaying in Australia or going back home to NZ. But with a bigger trip in the pipeline through Aus, Singas and NZ I thought I had better get some insurance. I looked at AA Travel in NZ, but they won't cover me as I am not resident in NZ.

does anyone know of any travel insurance companies that are happy to do this?

I did think that I might just put my Kiwi address (I am still a tax resident) in but technically that would be wrong, even though I have a house, car, phone etc back in NZ - I just don't live there atm

I think it all depends on what the insurance company considers to be your place of residence. You might want to look at World Nomads (I don't have enough posts to include the link, just Google "World Nomads").

In their FAQ, they state:

What is my country of residence?
Your country of permanent residence can be defined as the country you would wish to be repatriated to in the event of a medical emergency and where you would be able to then receive long term medical care, if required. You must also be legally defined as a permanent resident (not temporary) of that country and have a residential address that you can refer to within that country.

So if you're a NZ resident/citizen (for immigration purposes), and have a NZ home, etc, then something like this may suit you? Do your own research and check the policy wording carefully, of course.

brilliant! Thanks - Travel Insurance Online - Travel Safely with World Nomads does basically exactly what I need it to do. The insurance from PNG is 4x the price of being insured as resident of NZ, and the repatriation back to NZ is exactly what I would require... I already have full cover whilst here in PNG. So a great solution...
