I am in a bit of a quandary. I'm flying QF31 and 32 this month from Sydney to Heathrow and back on the A380. I'm booked in whY but have upgrades requested for Y+ over and J on the way back, and the availability of the upgrades is looking good.

I've flown in both Y and F on the A380 previously so by using the upgrades as planned I will have tried and tested all 4 cabins on the A380.

I usually don't suffer jetlag too badly when heading to Europe, hence the request to just Y+, but coming back is a nightmare, hence the request for J.

The quandary I have is that I am only in Europe for a week, arriving on Christmas eve. Should I preferentially aim for business class on the way over simply to reduce jet lag and improve the quality of my stay in Europe at the cost of an additional 36000 points, or stick to Y+ to experience all 4 of the A380 cabins?

Well you can apply for J with a fall back position of Y+. Might even be a good idea to do it both ways just in case.

As for flying all four cabins, well I've been in first and am flying J in Jan and happy not to go any lower. :)

Hmmm, thanks for the feedback but I think I'll stick to Y+ going over - I want to save some points for a JASA if I need to bump up the SCs at some point in the future. Plus, having never tested Y+ I'm keen to find out what it's like.

Availability, as far as I can tell, looks good in both Y+ SYD-LHR and in J LHR-SYD.
