VIRGIN Australia expects a good response to its new Sabre reservation system as it beds down the increased range of functionality it believes will allow it to compete more effectively.

The airline switched over to the new system almost two weeks ago and is generally pleased with the results despite some early teething problems that included flight delays, intermittent website problems and long waits at call centres.

Travel companies were this week still reporting some glitches and outages, which the airline said were isolated and being addressed.

Unsurprisingly, it paints a significantly more positive impression than most customers have had. There's not too much detail about other potential Sabre goodies other than waitlisting, and a clear statement that domestic connections to international sectors earn points based on mileage.
