my next flight leaves in 24hours after arrival so what is the best way to spend those 24 hours in a place I have never been?

Done this many times, last was a week ago.

The lounge is the old Q one taken over by CX few years ago, its OK nothing flash.

The amenities kit is small and basic (unlike EK)

The Regal Airport Hotel is excellent get the club floor, its attached by aero bridge about a 100m walk, includes top breakfast and dinner, drinks 4pm to 8pm and after noon teas etc., late club floor checkout (we had 6pm), has big rooms unlike most in HK. If you stay in city the Kowloon Hotel Club floor is good, can check in bags on exit at city departure station. Personally for one night stay at Regal, saves carting luggage to town.

On arrival get a day train pass to the city and MTR ticket, then on latter cash in on exit whats not used!. The trains run approx every 3/5 minutes!.

Check out the markets in Kowloon and Mongkok etc.

As a QF Plat get to airport checkin real early and try the CX 1st lounges The Pier & Wing and the new QF lounge too.

Unfortunately only SG for the OP, so no visit to CX F lounges at HKG :( But heartily endorse everything else Limewood said :)

There is a viewing platform on the Kowloon waterfront that gives magical views to the Island / HK city lights at night. And of course you must do the Star Ferry from Kowloon across to the city and the Peak Tram.

A taxi from the city to Stanley on the southern side is worth doing ; not expensive and gets you out of the packed city; some good views as you go over the mountains and a couple of nice quiet bars at Stanley to recuperate.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I highly recommend the JJ Hotel in Wan Chai (airport express form the airport to Central, then a taxi to the hotel. It's a shortish journey, about 35HKD for the taxi).

You can book the JJ Hotel through booking.com (but they are often sold out as they are pretty much one of the best value hotels on HK island). Of you can't get a room at the JJ Hotel, there are a couple others in close proximity.

I would be staying on HK Island... with 24 hours... have a ride on the trams (into central). Go up Victoria Peak. Walk around mid levels and Lang Kwai Fong. Browse the malls. Take the star ferry to Kowloon side and back (for the experience).
