Hi, we are trying to transport some baby miniature goats. They are approx 5 weeks old and weigh 4.8kg each. They'll be travelling on their own from bundaberg to townsville. Aus air express and jet pets and dogtainers say they have to travel in wooden crates, and the cheapest quote we could get was $600. Toll air express says virgin won't do it, and we don't know who else to ask...
The goats are $600, so we were looking for something a bit cheaper.. They can both fit in one medium sized cat carrier, as the breeder who is sending it to us has done it before, in the last few months. Suddenly the airlines no longer allow transport in plastic cages??
any help?
thanks a lot

Best bet might be to see if you can find a trucking company that will just pop them in a carrier in the cabin with the driver - don't forget they will need some water.
Provided you don't expect door-to-door delivery the driver might be happy to do it for a bit of beer money.

Have you showed Jet Pets (and/or the others) actual pictures of them, maybe in a cat carrier. For scale.

They are probably thinking of a huge goat and it must be in a wooden crate, maybe.

I don't see that it should make any difference what's in the cat carrier ,unless it's snakes, ;)

thats what we thought, but apparently because they have hooves they need to be in wooden crates, and we had to buy them from them, because hiring is not allowed.. When they pee, it gets absorbed in the wood and they can't reuse it...

Thanks for the idea vetrade, I went to gumtree and had a look at people driving up and looking to share their car and save on fuel. We sent a text to three people, and one of them rang and was really happy to do it for us. We said we would pay him $200 for bringing them up for us which we think was fair. Should work out great.
Thanks everyone for you comments and ideas... ;)

They aren't Italian, are they? Or own a restaurant?

Capretto is an Italian word, after all. And with the cost of meat these days...

Just sayin'.... ;)
