Flying WLG-MEL-PER next week on QF.

Not having had to transit intl to domestic at MEL before, am I right in assuming;

  • We collect our luggage at MEL to go through immigration/customs
  • Is there a seemless transfer point at MEL negating the need to line up at the Domestic?

Any answers would be appreciated, as everything I could find through the search was indeed domestic - international and not the way that I am looking for.
The QF site is quite vague in detail compared to the SYD airport tab.

Thanks

It's all the one big building.

If flying QF at MEL, after exiting immigration/customs, head left, up the travelator and you will find yourself n the Qantas domestic check-in hall.

I guess there you need to look for the bag drop area or maybe ask for assistance from one of the attendants. I have never used such since 1) I rarely check luggage and 2) even more rarely, transit MEL.

It's been a while since I've done a INT-DOM transfer in MEL, however when I did assuming I'd already been given boarding passes for my connecting flight, once exiting INT and walking up stairs to QF DOM, I'd go to bag drop, I can't remember if tags needed to be placed on the bag or not (another one who tends to fly HLO these days), so just check if the bag tags are only to MEL, or if they are onto your final destination.

In any case MEL is about the easiest east coast airport to transit at.
