I am planning to have an overnight transit (less than 24 hours) in Singapore, on SQ. Am I allowed to retrieve my checked in luggage in Singapore, or does it have to be checked through to my final destination?

Further, if say I check in everything to my final destination, can I then check in another piece in Singapore?

Thanks.

I am sure its no problem to get your bags in Singapore, i have done it before in SQ/SilkAir transits, not sure about the other question though.

Some airports and airlines have specific rules regarding maximum trasnit times for bags to be checked through. For CX at HGK, any transit over 12 hours and the bags are not supposed to be through checked. At least that was the message an AA check-in agent read from her terminal when I asked if she could check my bags through to KUL (DFW-LAX-HKG-KUL). Since I was in HKG for more than 12 hours (was about 14 hours), she said she could only check them as far as HKG and I would need to collect them there.

So definitely no problem with collecting them at SIN. Just make sure they are only tagged as far as SIN. But you may have a problem is you don't want to collect them and want them checked to the next or subsequent destination. However, as this is airline and airport specific, I can't tell you exactly what the SQ/SIN policy will be.

You certainly can - I've done this a few times at Changi.
