I have a new DONE 4 starting in JNB leaving at 19.20 JNB - LHR x ATH (1.55 hour stopover, both BA)

I am about to change the dates on a nearly completed DONE 5 to get me back to JNB flying
MEL-HKG x JNB (1.55 hour stopover, both Cathay) arriving at 7.30 am in JNB.

There would be nearly 12 hours between the arrival in JNB and flight to JNB-LHR. Cathay has confirmed that I can book my luggage thru all the way. There is an airside hotel in JNB that I can freshen up in and thus avoid customs and collecting baggage.

I am not sure what would happen if for some reason the MEL-HKG flight was delayed and I missed flight to JNB and missed the start of the new DONE4. Should I be ultra conservative and arrive in JNB one day earlier?

It is not possible to arrive in HK 24 hours earlier as this stop can only be a transit as second flight to Asia. (It seemed a good idea at the time to return to JNB via HK than Sydney, cheaper taxes and more status credits givealready been to Asia in the trip)

Thanks. This is an amazing forum. The generosity in giving of time and information of fellow members and moderators is very much appreciated. :)
