I want to book a classic award from WLG-BNE flying JQ WLG-AKL and QF AKL-BNE.

When Jetstar usually say that baggage needs to be re-checked in for each flight, what is the procedure with NZ routes and QF connections?

On a slightly different note, my other question is, when you have two separate tickets flying from your point of origin to your destination country via a third country, on low cost carriers, do you go ahead and clear immigration and customs and what not in the layover country, tell them you're only staying for a few minutes/hours, get your luggage and go, check in again, and go through immi once more?

Can't help you with the first question...

..but Yes to the second.. (although on separate tickets connecting in a third country I always build in an overnight stop even on full service carriers.. just too risky otherwise with missed connections etc)

You will find that AKL is the exception to the rule for JQ - ie. in AKL they will actually interline your bags for you.

Check the JQ website carefully - it has a table where it shows what it will and won't do based on various connections.
