Hi all,

Booking QF35 MEL-SIN arrival according to QF at 1755

The rest of my family will be flying SQ SIN to KUL

HLO

Sq 118 departs at 1845 (family will be on this flight)

Assuming no QF35 delays can I make this flight? (HLO and staying airside).

Flightaware suggests that QF35 is very punctual arriving sometimes before 5pm.
I understand fully the possibility i can be left high and dry of QF35 is delayed

Business or down the back? If one of the first off and depending on gates for arriving and departing flights should be able to transfer in 20-25 minutes.

Cutting it a little fine for my liking. QF35 arriving an hour early is a huge bonus.

It is cutting it a little fine.
Obviously a successful 2 PNR itinerary will depend on on-time performance of 1st sector.

Maybe I will get MH616 which departs at 1915.

Do you remember when boarding times occur at Changi for MH/SQ: T-x?

Some of the MH flights can be a little late to board but they are usually at the furthest gates as well.

Boarding times are officially something like an hour before. The actual* 'gate close' time is the important thing.

*'actual' vs the computer monitors which scream 'gate closing' about 45 minutes prior to departure.

Remember SIN has security screening at the gate, so you need to be at the gate earlier compared to a centralised screening airport (SIN T4 will be centralised screening)

Combining all that,

When do you suggest gate closes for a 1915 flight?

Are the SQ gates closer than MH gates in T2 to QF gates in T1 ?

Gate closes around 10-15 minutes before departure time. Depends on how many people waiting at security.

There is no guarantee which gate you will arrive and depart. There is a chance you will arrive at furthest gate in one terminal and depart furthest gate in another terminal.

last two nights SQ118 has departed F34 and D41
QF36 which normally follows QF35 has departed C20 and C1
(but more often the QF flights are at the end of the C pier)
Departure Flight Status - Changi Airport Singapore

D41 is a quick walk (and technically still in T1) - maybe 5min
F34 is much further and possibly quicker with the Skytrain - 15-25min walk

Looking at the last 7 days.
QF118 has been approx 30min early 4 times, approx 30min late 2 times and roughly on time once.

Now the other question is:

Will QF give me boarding pass for a QF35 (arrive 1755) to MH616 (depart 1915)

both OW, SIN MCT I understand is 55 minutes...

(I understand I can do a web or mobile checkin)

HLO.

What is the fastest travel time between end of pier at C gates to end of pier F gates: say C26-F60 using skytrain? Im a fast walker...

As a fast walker it's taken me 15 mins from the Qantas Lounge to the last F gate, without using Skytrain (it had just left, which means it's quicker to use the travellators). Add another 5 mins tops for getting from the end of the C gates to near the QF lounge. I prefer to use the QF lounge when Travelling MH if I have time ....

BTW, easy to measure distance on Google maps satellite view and simply apply your walking speed (and if you are able to use travellators unimpeded it will actually be a little quicker as well, although that is a big if ... it's often quicker not to use them )

thanks dajop.

I had figured 20 minutes for myself

Sometimes QF35 arrives at the gate early. if so I may have some time at the lounge.

The anxiety about a 2 PNR itinerary!!

I would have taken the 2215 hrs flight SIN-KUL were it not for my family flying into KL on SIA and arriving there 1945 hrs

My general rule is if you have to ask if it's enough time, the answer is always "it is not".
You may get lucky and everything goes your way, however with such a short connection time, across 2 PNR's, realistically any one of 10 different things could go against you and that's it.

I personally wouldn't be keen on this connection, and whilst I realize you want to fly with the family, I would have a refundable backup already booked.

SIN airport is a dream airport to navigate around.

I have been thru SIN airport many times with connections and never had any issues.

Changing terminals to T 3 which involved a bus trip all very easy.

Shortly after SIN T3 opened, before I had lounge access, I had a few hours to kill during a long connection and just walked around the airport. I walked from the central area of T1, past the E gates into T2, to the end of the F gates, then back through T2 into T1, through the A and B gates in T3 and back to the starting point, looking at the upper level shops and "attractions" as I saw them. All in under 90 minutes. Didn't use the skytrain or any buses.

SIN itself is easy enough to get around, but how easy SIN is to navigate is only a part of the equation. From the plane comes in late, to getting stuck behind a group of very slow people, there are many things which can eat into those precious minutes which have nothing to do with the design of the airport and can happen to even the best prepared travelers. With tons of time to spare you don't notice these little things, when seconds count it's amazing how many things can seem to slow you down.

Yesterday it took me 11 minutes including toilet stop to go from SINT1 C18 to SINT2 F59
I used Skytrains B and A. Both Skytrains were waiting for me. One of those "green lights all the way" scenario. 15 minutes would have been a push without Skytrains

Qantas had a ground agent meet me at the gate to help me get to F59 but her short stature could not keep up with my strides. I said thank you for her advice to use the Skytrains B and A and then zoomed off.

OT: However I got done at the security at F59 because my duty free from SYD was not in a sealed bag. I don't buy DF and had no idea that if transiting anywhere the DF had to be in a sealed bag. I told the DF person in SYD that I was travelling to KUL showed boarding pass and she must have forgotten...anyway gate check bag.

So in the end a delayed QF35 deplaned at 1826 at T1 C18, arrived at F59 at 1837 and boarded at 1849. MH616 doors closed at 1905 and left gate at 1811.

That's handy to know. Does any airline allow bags to be gate checked in SIN?

Well done. That connection is too tight for my liking. Ideally 2 hours would be desirable but even then things can go wrong.
