Hi all,

Did a search around and could not find what I was looking for.

Is it possible with carry on only to fly in from the US mainland, go to the transfer desk at HNL airside (do they even have one?) and get a Jetstar boarding pass, or does one have to pass out through security and check in landside, then pass through TSA on the way back in?

Alternatively, can it be done at the QP?

Cheers

Hi Wayne. We did similar over Easter. Didn't come across a transfer desk and the flights will enter/depart from different terminals. They are a short walk appart, but you would have to recheck through security. Security and checkin was efficient.

Cheers, Steven.

As you will have to clear immigration in HNL, the airside transfer (even if it existed) would not be permitted.

Happy wandering

Fred, that would be the case for someone where HNL is their first port of entry INTO the USA But wayneerry is describing leaving teh USA via HNL with a domestic flight from USA mainland to HNL and transiting to JQ flight to Australia. So tyehre is no outbound USA customs or immigration processing to be completed at HNL.

Which is correct (domestic inbound to HNL), but as I understand it, I'll have to leave airside to get a Jetstar boarding pass groundside and then go through TSA again.

Is there an option to do on-line check-in for JQ flight? But either way its just a security screening check, no outbound immigration lines to wait though.

Presume that there is, but HNL is not a "straight to gate" listed port, so I also presume that if I do OLCI then I'll still need the BP checked.

I'm connecting through LAX, so I could do the OLCI at the AC there, but there may be no point.

It may be worth calling the HNL QP/AC on Skype and asking them if they can issue JQi boarding passes. My gut feeling is they don't so you'd need to go landside first to checkin then back through TSA checkpoint.

As QF WP's travelling ex HNL on JQi in whY, we received a 'gold lane' stamp on our boarding passes which is kind of like a fast track through security screening.

A lot of US Mainland airports no longer have an elite or Priority AAccess lane for TSA eg MIA there's only a general one or the TSA pre-check pax so Zone 1 boarding means zip.

Now that the trip is done, I'll let you know what happened. JQ can issue a boarding pass at the gate. I asked at the HNL QP and they rang through my passport details to Jetstar staff. The QP cannot issue a JQ boarding pass themselves. A JQ ground staff member came to the QP to get my passport and I headed up there a bit later to get the boarding pass. Btw, OLCI was not available.

In addition, the TSA advice is not to leave the secured area and to get boarding passes at the gate. Given that the cut off for checkin is an hour before, I would presume that this would still apply, even for gate checkin/issued boarding passes, so if someone is wanting to do this, they would either get the QP staff on to it early, or be at the gate 1 1/4 hours before scheduled departure if they have no QP access. The staff at the QP said that this kind of request was "unusual", so presuming most JQ flyers have to check stuff in.

Of course this all applies if you arrive at HNL with carry on only (or does JQ interline with anyone at HNL?)
